I know this sounds strange but I am giving up potato chips. This is a real challenge as I absolutely love potato chips. But as I did this last year every time I want some the Holy Spirit reminds me of my sacrifice. Albeit, potatoes.

Reminds me of Matt Redman’s testimony when he wrote “Heart of Worship.” While I’m not against big-band praise, I do think it’s becomes institutionalized as the norm. That a recipe for an unhealthy appetite of entertainment.

Absolutely agree. Churches both big and small preach willpower. Nothing wrong with will, only if the Gospel were empowering it.

My first is always NIV (1984), but I’ll jump around with NASB, NLT, AMP, ESV, and NKJV.

One thing I suggest, especially to my students, is to read it aloud to someone, or have someone read it to you. Varying how you absorb the scriptures is a good practice as well.

many leave the church today because of many becauses which to me boils down to focusing more on self than on the bigger picture.Many also do it in order to answer the higher calling from on high as one way of church growth ,leaving a bitter trail behind- no wonder narrow is the way.

I had to fill in for worship yesterday and all I could manage to get together from the worship community was another vocalist and a percussionist. So we sang, I play acoustic guitar and our percussionist played a cajon (beatbox type of instrument that mimics a drum kit) and yet it was a powerful time of worship as I could really step back and listen to the “choir” sing. It was amazing.
